Savanna Private Game Lodge

Discover the Diverse Wildlife of Sabi Sand Game Reserve

Overview

An exclusive 5-star lodge, Savanna Private Game Lodge, is situated in the internationally famous Sabi Sand Reserve within the greater Kruger National Park Conservancy. Our internationally acclaimed lodge offers an exclusive, personalised and intimate safari experience to our guests, with a unique style of tented accommodation.

Our lodge lies in an area where ‘Big 5’ sightings are so frequent, it is not unusual to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino in a single game drive. Our specially designed game viewing vehicles and highly trained guides with a vast knowledge of the African bushveld, take guests on close and intimate encounters with a large variety of wildlife. Numerous nearby dams and a series of waterholes in front of the lodge attract many species, especially in the dry winter months when elephants are daily visitors.

What to Expect

Nine magnificent suites offer spacious and luxurious accommodation. Seven of the suites have tented roofs, blending the elegance of a by-gone colonial era with all the convenience of modern facilities. The beautifully appointed suites nestle amongst indigenous bush and trees that provide privacy, quiet and a haven for birds.

Specially designed game viewing vehicles and highly trained guides with vast knowledge of the African bushveld take guests on close and intimate encounters with a large variety of wildlife. Optional game walks are also offered to guests who would like to experience the fauna and flora on foot. Numerous nearby dams and a series of waterholes in front of the lodge attract many species, especially in the dry winter months when elephants are daily visitors.

Relaxation between game drives is important and what better way to unwind than with an invigorating massage. Savanna’s own qualified therapist offers guests a range of treatments in the privacy of their suites. And, if a little retail therapy is called for, a visit to the curio and gift shop should do the trick.

Highlights

Savanna Suite

The Savanna Suite is an opulent home away from home under thatch. Two large, beautifully furnished bedrooms lie on either side of an inter-connecting lounge. Each has a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, double shower and toilet. The bathrooms open onto paved outdoor showers. The bedrooms have glass doors with screens leading out onto covered patios, heated plunge pool and wooden viewing deck. From here guests enjoy views of a private waterhole and the beauty of the African bush.

The lounge is a harmonious meld of elegance and comfort with sofas grouped around a television and DVD centre, and a cosy reading nook in front of the fireplace. Step through sliding glass doors onto a large covered patio where candle-lit dinners or private pre-dinner cocktails may be enjoyed. An attached fully equipped kitchen and guest restroom complete the impression of being in one’s own exquisite home.

The Savanna Suite’s unique facilities are much in demand by families who would like to have their children under the same roof but not in the same bedroom, or groups of friends wishing to spend quality time together. A butler in attendance at dinner and a private game viewing vehicle with dedicated ranger and tracker to take care of all their needs completes the Savanna Suite package.

Childminding can be arranged for children younger than 2 years old, allowing parents the leisure time to partake in game drives.

Executive Suites

The three large Executive Suites have canvas roofs for an authentic safari ambience and the romance of sleeping in Bedouin-style tents. Canvas roofs are set above solid walls for comfort, privacy and security as well as efficient air-conditioning and fans.

Each Executive Suite has a spacious bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities, double shower and toilet as well as outdoor shower atrium. The bedrooms have plush sitting areas leading out onto covered patios with private heated plunge pool and wooden viewing decks overlooking surrounding waterholes and the magnificent African bush.

Quite and secluded, they offer a sanctuary of peaceful relaxation after the rush of an exciting game drive.

Luxury Suites

Four Luxury Suites under canvas nestle amid beautiful indigeneous trees that attract a variety of birds. They have the same facilities as the larger suites in a more compact space and are furnished and decorated to the same superb standard. The bedrooms have draped ceilings creating an atmosphere of romance and intimacy. Tented roofs blend into the African bush while solid walls provide quiet and security, ensuring a restful night’s sleep.

Each Luxury Suite has an en-suite bathroom with free-standing bath, double vanities and both indoor and outdoor shower. The bedrooms open onto private patios with deck and private heated plunge pools. Sweeping views of the bush and waterholes can be enjoyed from the comfort of your deck chair. Tucked away with large stands of natural shrubbery separating them, the luxury suites are the ultimate in cosy, private hideaways.

Our Client Reviews

  • Tim Taylor

It was our 50th wedding anniversary & we took our whole family, our children, their spouses & our grandchildren, 20 strong, on safari at Umkumbe Bush Lodge, Sabi Sands & then for 5 days in the Western Cape. In the Cape we stayed at Lyonesse House in Constantia, a fabulous property for a big group. It was all arranged by Denise of East Cape Tours. Everything went very smoothly & everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks Denise!

Stephanie has been the best agent I have worked with in Southern Africa. I bring groups from USA to South Africa and Zimbabwe and she has helped me tremendously.

Cearl Marney was an incredible agent, going above and beyond to arrange our stay at Amakhala Game Reserve. Not only were the arrangements flawless but Cearl also organised a nurse to come to our apartment to conduct PCR tests for the flight home. We would certainly recommend East Cape Tours (and Cearl in particular!) for any holiday bookings! We will be using them again next year Easter for sure!

For our first safari in Africa we decided to go to Sabi Sands private game reserve which was incredible. The whole process went seamlessly thanks to our amazing agent Valencia Sifo.
