Sabi Sabi Selati Camp

Discover the Diverse Wildlife of Sabi Sabi Game Reserve

Overview

Sabi Sabi Selati Camp is an enchanting and nostalgic safari destination, harking back to the late 19th century when the first railway lines traversed the Mpumalanga lowveld, carrying precious cargo from Phalaborwa to Lourenco Marques in Mozambique. Inspired by the legends of hidden gold and fearless hunters, Selati Camp, with its seven exquisite suites, stands as a tangible link to this grand steam train era. Each suite bears a romantic name reminiscent of the railway stations of yesteryears, offering intimate and comfortable lodging. Selati Camp effortlessly marries “Out of Africa” styling with modern amenities such as en-suite bathrooms, concealed air-conditioning, and electricity, all designed to preserve the historical theme. Selati Camp, located on the banks of the Msuthlu River, offers an idyllic safari setting where you can immerse yourself in the wonder of the African wilderness. It’s a place where history and the wilderness converge.

What to Expect

Sabi Sabi Selati Camp offers seven charming and intimate suites, each named after railway stations from a bygone era. These suites feature an “Out of Africa” style that combines modern comforts with historical elegance. With en-suite bathrooms and cleverly concealed air-conditioning and electricity, the historical ambiance is meticulously maintained. Nights at Selati are illuminated by authentic shunters’ lamps and lanterns, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere. The camp’s cosy lounge area is filled with reminders of days gone by, creating an ambiance of old-world charm. Dining experiences include outdoor meals in the boma under the starry African sky and intimate dinners in the “Farmhouse Kitchen.”

The camp also offers a sparkling pool and covered wooden viewing decks, providing perfect spots to observe wildlife at the nearby waterhole. Situated on the banks of the Msuthlu River, Selati Camp immerses you in the heart of the bushveld. Game drives are conducted within the Sabi Sabi Reserve, a biodiverse paradise home to over 200 mammal and 300 bird species, including the Big 5. Day and night safaris offer remarkable wildlife encounters, while guided walking safaris provide a more intimate look at the smaller creatures of the bush. Selati Camp beckons you to the Africa of classic safari eras, where sunsets blend into lantern-lit romance and service is seamlessly delivered with a touch of old-world elegance. Welcome to Selati Camp, where history and the untamed wilderness coexist harmoniously.

Our Client Reviews

  • Tim Taylor

It was our 50th wedding anniversary & we took our whole family, our children, their spouses & our grandchildren, 20 strong, on safari at Umkumbe Bush Lodge, Sabi Sands & then for 5 days in the Western Cape. In the Cape we stayed at Lyonesse House in Constantia, a fabulous property for a big group. It was all arranged by Denise of East Cape Tours. Everything went very smoothly & everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thanks Denise!

Stephanie has been the best agent I have worked with in Southern Africa. I bring groups from USA to South Africa and Zimbabwe and she has helped me tremendously.

Cearl Marney was an incredible agent, going above and beyond to arrange our stay at Amakhala Game Reserve. Not only were the arrangements flawless but Cearl also organised a nurse to come to our apartment to conduct PCR tests for the flight home. We would certainly recommend East Cape Tours (and Cearl in particular!) for any holiday bookings! We will be using them again next year Easter for sure!

For our first safari in Africa we decided to go to Sabi Sands private game reserve which was incredible. The whole process went seamlessly thanks to our amazing agent Valencia Sifo.
